Marc Röntsch
Dr. Marc Röntsch is a musicologist, guitarist and bassist from Cape Town. As a high school student, Marc was a member of the Beau Soleil Senior Stage Band. Marc completed B.Mus (2009) and M.Mus degrees from the University of Cape Town, as well as a PhD in Musicology (2017) from Stellenbosch University.
Marc has taught at a variety of schools including Grove Primary School, Springfield Convent School, Oakhurst Primary School, SACS High School, Wynberg Boys Junior School and the Rainbow Academy. He also is a part-time musicology and music criticism lecturer at Stellenbosch University. He is currently a research affiliate at the Africa Open Institute for Music, Research and Innovation, where his research focus revolves around South African popular music, archive and biography.
As a guitarist, Marc performs and records regularly with Cape Town progressive rock band Black Moscow, as well as in various session contexts. He has appeared as a soloist for the Stellenbosch University Jazz Band, as well as for The University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra, premiering Hans Roosenschoon’s “…or to err…” in 2013.
