Woodwind Department

The Beau Soleil Woodwind Department offers students the exceptional opportunity to study with nationally known teachers specializing in the full complement of Woodwind instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone. Students can expect individual attention, high standards and a supportive learning environment. Our students work with a professional accompanist on repertoire throughout the year and have a wide range of opportunities to perform.

Each student is challenged to develop his or her own musicianship to the highest degree while following individual goals. Wind ensembles, stage band, chamber music opportunities and master classes with guest artists broaden the musical boundaries for woodwind students at Beau Soleil.
Beau Soleil’s reputation for excellence attracts students from around the Peninsula, enhancing the overall educational experience of music students.

Michael Collins & Luis Magalhaes in Concert

There's a rare opportunity to hear a visiting world class musician in early February. British uber-clarinetist Michael Collins is coming to play two concerts in the city and one in Stellenbosch before continuing on his tour of the country.

Collins, MBE, was the recipient of the first BBC Young Musician of the Year award at age sixteen, and has established himself as an icon of British classical music, with a glittering international career as soloist, recording artist and more recently as conductor. He has been invited to play at the London Proms more often than any other wind soloist.

He presents a programme of the best works for clarinet and piano in the repertoire by composers Schumann, Brahms, Finzi, Lutoslawski and Poulenc. The first Cape Town concert is at Christ Church Constantia on Sunday 5th February at 3pm with pianist Luis Magalhaes (prebook by calling 082 218 0100). The concert will be repeated at St Andrews Greenpoint (corner Chiappini and Somerset) on Tuesday evening 7th February at 8pm. Book for this concert online through Quicket or buy tickets at the door (cash only). For more information call 082 864 4550.

The Stellenbosch concert is on Wednesday 8th February in the Endler Hall at 8pm. Tickets are R140 and bookable through Computicket.

This is his programme for all the Cape Town concerts:

 Schumann: Fantasy Pieces

Bartok: An Evening At The Village

Brahms: Clarinet Sonata No.2, Op.120

-

Finzi: Five Bagatelles

Lutoslawski: Dance Preludes

Poulenc: Clarinet Sonata
